The first Leadership 101 talk was all about motivation – we were joined by Andrei Pitis, the host of the leadership talks.

He started the class with his own personal pitch – not on why you should attend Saturday’s Innovation Labs Hackathon, a cool mix between fun and serious product work, but why you shouldn’t become an entrepreneur. The morale: be who you really are, but don’t let anyone – parents, education, society – to decide whether you should become and entrepreneur or not, make up your own mind.

We discussed almost everything about motivation: Andrei made an account of several used theories dealing with human work motivation, including detailing the Two-factor theory of Herzberg, but he also showcased real-life examples, and more than anything else, answered lots of questions: from almost philosophical questions like “why would I want to become a manager” to more practical questions like “what kind of social skills you need to have for being a manager”.

More than 65 master students asked questions and made comments on Andrei thoughts and real-life lessons on leadership.

Andrei is one the most active angel investor at this time – co-founder of TechAngels, while still passionately writing code. He has one of the most mixed carrer paths you will find in a software person: he has made the road from programmer to a CEO, he founded several start-ups – in Romania and United States, he invested in several successful start-ups.

Together with Razvan Rughinis and Bogdan Iordache, he also founded TechLounge, one of the two partners responsible with making Innovation Labs possible.
